Drought in Tea Plantation areas , Workers are helpless

The management are insisting the worker to pluck 18kg for the day wages but due to the drought , the workers are unable er to pluck 18kg per day. at the same time the production also are decreasing day by day therefore the workers are unable to go to work every day. This situation has been affected the their day to day lives. The youth are moving to other district for finding employments.

பதுளை மாவட்டத்தின் மீரியபெத்தையில் மீண்டுமொரு பாரிய மண் சரிவு அனர்த்தம் குறித்து இன்று முன்னெச்சரிக்கை விடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இன்று மாலை நேரத்தில் மீரியபெத்தை பகுதியில் கொட்டிய பயங்கர மழையானது ஒரு மணித்தியாலத்துக்கு நூறு மில்லிமரிலும் பார்க்க அதிகளவில் பதிவாகியுள்ளது. இதன் காரணமாகவே அப்பகுதியில் மீண்டுமொரு மண்சரிவிற்கான அபாயம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனையடுத்து அப்பிரதேசத்தில் வசித்த 70க்கும் மேற்பட்ட குடும்பங்கள் இன்று மாலை அவசர கதியில் பாதுகாப்பான இடங்களை நோக்கி இடமாற்றப்பட்டுள்ளனர். அத்துடன் வெல்லவாய- கொஸ்லாந்தை பிரதான பாதையின் மூன்று இடங்களில் மண்சரிவு காரணமாக தற்போது அப்பகுதிக்கான போக்குவரத்து துண்டிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஹல்தும்முல்லை , அமுபிடிகந்த, தியகல பிரதேசத்தில் வசித்த 60 குடும்பங்களும் மண்சரிவு அபாயம் காரணமாக இடம்பெயர்க்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். கடந்த வருடம் கொஸ்லாந்தை , மீரியபெத்தையில் இடம்பெற்ற மண்சரிவு அனர்த்தம் காரணமாக சுமார் 30 பேர் உயிருடன் மண்ணில் புதையுண்டனர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. Plantation community demand decent life, Land & Livelihood

Plantation community in the mid hill country are one of the most marginalized community in the country. Not a single perch ownership for them though they have been living in the same line room and the same state for generations.
Most of them do not have even a home for their decent living.
They have organized a protest today at Hatton demanding land, housing, respect, dignity and decent life. They are not happy with the new government proposal for Haritha Boomi land ownership with 7 perches land. Their demand is 20 perches land for their housing, home gardening, livestock development hence ensure food for the family. At tge same time there could be reforestration in their 20 perches land may be in the margin of the land which provide sustenance of water catchments and reataining water in the soil preventing soil erosion and tendency of land slides.
However, the plantation sector politicians are already agreed to 7perches land proposd by the government.

Plantation Land rights meeting was held in Suva Piyasa in kandy on 07th Feb 2015. more than 70 representatives from plantation community , civil organization leaders, Trade Union leaders and NGOs have taken part in the meeting. During the meeting all of the representatives agreed unanimously 20 perches land is compulsory  for each families in order to live a better live standard. and demand  for that in the future.

Estate people protest for their land rights at Badulla in Sri Lanka

A demonstration was conducted by PA,NAFSO together with the civil societies, NGOs collectively on Meeriyabedda landslide issue and the ignorance  at the Badulla Town, in Sri Lanka .  200 people took part in the demonstration. Here protesters demands estate workers land rights. the major demands are: 1)Provide 10 perch land for housing 02) provide 10 perch land for home gardening 03) provide 1 acre land for agriculture 04) Estate workers should be brought to the local government structure 05) Demolish the ruling system which brought by British  in the plantation sector (at this moment the plantation communities are under the  Plantation management system) 06) plantation people land rights should be ensured.07) provide adequate house (private house)

These are the main demands put forward by the people.  people specially shouted that " we don't want up stair barracks as it is earlier.
